Every day in 2023, over 700 women died from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. That means a maternal death occurred almost every 2 minutes.Newborn Mortality
The first month of life is the most vulnerable period for child survival, with 2.3 million newborns dying in 2022.
The Solution
Strengthening midwifery education to international standards is a key step to improving quality of care and reducing maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity.
When babies are delivered by well-trained professionals, it saves lives and dramatically reduces maternal and newborn mortality.
Continuing education for
nurses and midwives
The Nursing & Midwifery Development Foundation is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that funds and supports the NMDC, a training center for nurses and midwives in northern Iraq.
We believe that everyone should have access to high-quality healthcare. That goal begins with knowledgeable and trained nurses and midwives.
Through our training center in Iraq, we can equip up to 7,000 nurses, midwives, and healthcare providers each year with life-saving skills.
